| Ask Marilyn Sunday's column - May 3, 2009 What happens to doves that are released at ceremonies, such as weddings? —Wayne Horton, Aurora, Colo. The only “doves” that should be released at events are white homing pigeons, which belong to the dove family. These birds (cousins of the much smaller “true” doves) are strong fliers and will return home safely. White doves (actually, white ring neck doves) should never be used for this purpose. They won’t be able to fly home or find food in an unfamiliar environment. The little birds will either die trying or succumb to predators. |
